Hawke's Bay council seeks public's view on fluoride

10:56 am on 6 September 2009

Residents in central Hawke's Bay will be asked if they want to continue having fluoride added to their water supply.

Fluoridation began in 1979 at the Waipukurau water treatment plant, which now needs replacing.

Mayor Trish Giddens says there was no public consultation when fluoridation was first introduced.

The Central Hawke's Bay District Council will survey residents over the next two months and will make a decision in November.
