The driver of the car, a 52-year-old Feilding woman, died at the scene of the crash, about 2pm on Saturday, on Railway Rd near the junction of Maple St.

Police say the car lost control on a bend and crashed through a fence, hitting a house.

A 28-year-old woman, who was the front seat passenger, was transferred from Palmerston North Hospital to Wellington where she was in critical condition in intensive care.

Two boys aged six and nine were transferred to Starship Hospital in Auckland and are described as stable, while a three-year-old girl, also in a stable condition, remains in Palmerston North hospital.
