Climber survives 300 metre fall

5:49 pm on 6 September 2009

A climber has been flown to Christchurch Hospital after falling about 300 metres on Mount Somers in mid-Canterbury.

A St John Ambulance spokesperson Ian Henderson says the man received moderate injuries.

The man called for help at 1pm on Sunday, and the Westpac rescue helicopter picked him up.

Mr Henderson says the man's location on the mountain made communicating with him difficult for rescuers.
