Developers pin hopes on super-city changes

A hapu behind plans for a controversial beach development at Te Arai, north of Auckland, says it could be helped by changes to the super city boundaries.

The Auckland Governance Select Committee has recommended giving most of the land in Rodney District north of Waiwera including Leigh, Tawharanui and Te Arai, to Kaipara District Council.

Rodney District Council has turned down plans by Te Uri o Hau hapu to develop part of Te Arai. The hapu is fighting the decision in the Environment Court.

Te Uri o Hau chairman Russell Kemp says the boundary proposal may make the process of getting consent easier.

Opponents fear Kaipara District Council will allow too much development.
