Wastewater system approved at Kawakawa Bay

A $29 million clean up has been approved for one of Auckland's favourite holiday spots, which has been unsafe for years.

Kawakawa Bay, south of Manukau City, has been plagued by polluted water from septic tanks.

Manukau Water says a major cleanup of the pollution was delayed by hold-ups over resource consent.

Chair James Hill says a wastewater system has now been approved.

The project will be completed in 2011, but it's not known when the beach will get the all-clear.
