Fire at North Shore appliance business

More than 60 firefighters from around Auckland have been battling a large blaze at a two-storey appliance company building on the North Shore.

The fire at Allo Allo Appliances in Archers Road, Glenfield, broke out at about 2.30am on Wednesday.

The alarm was raised after a member of the public driving past the 800 square metre building saw flames.

The Fire Service says a number of North Shore residents rang in to report that they could see large clouds of black smoke in the area.

Senior station officer Mark Neville says the roof and mezzanine levels of the factory were extensively damaged, but the structure is salvagable.

At the time of the fire no-one was in the factory, which is used for reconditioning whiteware appliances.

Mr Neville says the owners have a long history with the building and are upset over the fire.

Fire Safety officers are investigating the cause of the blaze.
