Police have recovered the body of a Waikato Regional Council worker who drowned at Port Waikato.
The 46-year-old's body was recovered by a dive squad on Wednesday.
The man was last seen on the wharf by a colleague, who then heard a splash and noticed he was missing.
Regional council chief executive Bob Laing says the contractor was installing a monitoring system in a tide level recorder when he fell in the water and was swept away.
The council says it will work with police and Department of Labour to find out what happened.
