Damaged Auckland overbridge closed for two months

The Transport Agency has closed a motorway overbridge in Auckland for urgent repairs.

The Orams Road Bridge was extensively damaged after being struck by the boom arm of a digger being towed on the Southern Motorway in Manukau on Friday.

The bridge will have to be closed for about two months for repairs.

The Transport Agency and police are investigating whether the digger's arm was more than the legal height.

In October last year, all south-bound lanes were blocked on the North Shore after a truck carrying a digger hit the old Onewa Road overbridge, damaging it beyond repair.
