Hundreds of people across the central North Island were still without power on Monday afternoon, following Sunday's unseasonal snowfalls.
Unison - which manages powerlines in the Hawke's Bay, Taupo and Rotorua regions - says lines crew have worked through the night and since to restore power but the conditions were severe, with sleet and driving rain, and progress has been slow.
Customer relations manager Danny Gough said Monday mid-afternoon that unfortunately about 550 Hawke's Bay residents and 180 Taupo/Central Plains residents were still without power.
The Lines Company estimates that about 300 of its customers do not have power in the National Park and Ohakune areas.
Both companies say people can expect to have power restored either on Monday afternoon or by Tuesday morning.
