Police investigate possible hit and run

Police aren't ruling out the possibility a second vehicle was involved, after the death of a pedestrian in rural Northland.

Sheridan David Snowden, 29, was struck in Oakura at about 4.30am on Sunday.

Police say a vehicle was found rolled on its side in a ditch a short distance from where Mr Snowden was hit on Russell Road in Oakura, north of Whangarei.

Sergeant Graham Povey says the driver hasn't been arrested, but is speaking with them.

He says at this stage the police are open to the suggestion that another third party may have been involved.

Mr Povey says they were informed of the collision by members of Mr Snowden's family.

Two investigations have been launched by the Serious Crash Unit and Criminal Investigation Branch and the police are appealing for information from the public.
