The ski season at Turoa skifield on Mount Ruapehu has been extended by a fortnight due to recent heavy snow in the central North Island.
Between 30cm to 40cm of snow has fallen on the mountain in the past week.
Ruapehu Alpine Lifts says the recent snow is very unusual for this time of year.
Turoa will be open until 8 November. Whakapapa will close on Labour Day, 26 October.
