Two teenagers have been charged with murder, following the death of a teenager in the Bay of Plenty town of Murupara.

Kaine Lewis, 17, of Kaingaroa, was found in a driveway with severe head injuries early on 4 October and died before he could arrive at hospital.

The pair, aged 17 and 18, are due to appear in Rotorua District Court on Wednesday.

Both have already been charged with participating in a criminal group activity.

Police previously identified potential involvement by the Mongrel Mob and Tribesmen gangs.

Inspector Greg Sparrow says officers are still speaking with other people who may have been involved.
