Major change to Auckland lab testing takes effect

8:21 am on 19 October 2009

Auckland's district health boards say a major change to community medical testing arrangements taking effect on Monday should go smoothly.

The boards have given the former provider of the service, Diagnostic Medlab Limited (DML), 10% of the community laboratory testing contract to ease pressure on the new firm, Labtests.

There had been ongoing concern about shortcomings with Labtests' service since it took over from DML early last month.

From Monday, Aucklanders who need to have a test ordered by a family doctor or midwife are asked go to a Labtests collection centre, while those referred by a specialist should go to a DML centre.

The boards say Diagnostic Medlab is well-prepared.
