Seesaw in Dunedin carpark baffles council

4:41 pm on 20 October 2009

A seesaw cemented in place at a central city carpark has baffled Dunedin City Council and the lease holder of the parking space.

Those responsible cut holes in the asphalt and neatly fixed the legs of the blue seesaw to the ground in the Crawford Street carpark.

The seesaw has since been removed from the carpark.

The installation could be a statement about the council's new parking regime, in which pay and display meters have been installed at hundreds of formerly free parking spaces.

The new scheme is being altered by the council after a raft of complaints from business people.

Other options are that the seesaw was a message intended for the leaseholder of the parking space, or that it was just a meaningless prank.
