Support mounts for Wellington mall proposal

1:48 pm on 20 October 2009

A survey suggests more two thirds of Wellington businesses support a proposal to re-route buses through Manners Mall.

The Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce questioned 1500 companies about the $11 million, which includes opening the pedestrian mall to buses and beautifying lower Cuba Street.

Many businesses were against the proposal when it was announced by Wellington City Council.

But the Wellington Regional Chamber of Commerce says it received a strong response from those they surveyed, which included businesses from Manners Street, Cuba Street and wider Wellington areas.

It says the result reinforces the chamber's support for the proposal.
