A stranded whale on Southshore Beach in Christchurch, is dead.
Residents alerted the Department of Conservation when the whale was spotted on Wednesday.
DoC says there was still some movement from the whale when its personnel arrived at the scene, but it appears to have died around 11am.
It believes the whale probably came ashore to die. DoC is now considering how to dispose of it.
