The Armed Offenders Squad has been stood down after searching all Thursday afternoon for a Northland man.
The 45-year-old is wanted in relation to a violent attack on his partner in the small settlement of Taheke, near Kaikohe, on Wednesday night.
Armed police went to the scene about midday after the man's car was spotted outside a house, but he had gone.
Far North Area Commander Chris Scahill says police will release the man's name and description on Friday.
