Scrub fire in Northland

10:45 pm on 31 October 2009

Rural fire officers remained at the site of a big scrub fire in Northland on Saturday night to make sure there were no flare-ups.

The fire, fanned by westerly winds, tore through 100 hectares of scrub near Mangamuka, south-east of Kaitaia on Saturday.

Four fire trucks were called to the scene, as well as a helicopter because of the difficult access.

A spokesperson from the northern communications centre, Jarron Phillips says the fire is mainly on Department of Conservation land and no property is in danger.
