Lack of action on death house frustrates neighbours

Neighbours of a house in Christchurch where two women were murdered are frustrated there's been no progress on turning the site into a community facility.

The owner of the Wainoni Rd house, Jason Somerville, 33, on Monday pleaded guilty to killing his wife Rebecca Somerville and their neighbour Tisha Lowry.

Within days of the bodies being discovered in September, buried under the floorboards of the house, Christchurch mayor Bob Parker said the council would consider buying the property.

Neighbours say the house, on which there has been two arson attacks, is a constant, eerie reminder of the murders.

Radio New Zealand understands some Christchurch City councillors do not support Mr Parker's proposal and there are difficulties due to the property having multiple owners.

Mr Parker declined to comment on Monday.
