'Violence-free' Christmas cards from police

4:31 pm on 4 December 2009

The police in South Auckland are again sending Christmas cards to families they've had to deal with in the past, encouraging them to have a violence-free Christmas.

Detective Inspector John Tims says the cards contain useful advice, as well as a list of numbers to call if a situation gets out of hand.

He says they've been sending the cards to at-risk families since 2007.

The police say this is the busiest time of year for family violence: last year they had more than 2000 callouts in December and January.
