More cancer patients will be able to get radiation treatment at Christchurch Hospital, with the installation of a new machine from Britain.
Special trolleys and a forklift have been used to move heavy parts of the new linear accelerator to the hospital's oncology department.
The clinical director of radiation oncology, Iain Ward, says the machine will eventually replace one of three existing machines.
He says it will speed up treatment, because staff won't need to adjust the radiation beam manually, and allow another six patients a day to be treated.
