A 21-year-old woman has been killed when the car she was in lost control and crashed near Woodville, north of Palmerston North.
Police have named her as Andrea Kimberley Pramm of Bulls.
The car was approaching a bend in the road at Papatawa when it crashed into the side barriers of a rail over-bridge about 1am on Sunday.
A 17-year-old Dannvirke woman, was thrown from the vehicle by the force of the impact, and is in critical condition at Wellington Hospital's intensive care unit.
A 21-year-old man, who was driving the car, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is being spoken to by police, who say alcohol and speed were a factor in the crash.
