SH2 near Woodville reopens after offal spill

3:22 pm on 8 December 2009

State Highway 2 near Woodville in the North Island has been reopened to traffic after contractors cleaned up a 16km trail of offal that fell from a truck.

Police say the spill happened early on Tuesday morning. Several cars hit the waste, which was 30cm deep in places, and three spun out of control.

No one was injured, but several sections of the road heading toward Dannevirke were closed while the mess was cleaned up.

Police are urging anyone who drove through the offal to wash their vehicles as soon as possible to avoid spreading infection.
