Fire restrictions come into force for most of Northland this weekend, following weeks of little or no rain.
November was one of the driest months on record, with just four days of rain in the Far North.
Fire authorities say conditions are too dangerous to continue with an open fire season.
From midnight Friday, all open fires will be banned from the Aupouri to Karikari fire district.
Throughout the rest of the Far North and Whangarei permits will be required until further notice.
