Plans for a $28 million performing arts venue for Nelson have been dropped by Nelson City Council.
Councillors voted 10-3 on Thursday to dump the project, which has been in the planning for three years.
Many of the 600 submitters said it was the wrong concept on the wrong site and too costly for ratepayers.
The council will now look for a new plan combining a performing arts venue with a conference centre.
