Stadium trust deed adopted

5:59 am on 17 December 2009

Whangarei District Council has adopted a trust deed setting out rules for the running of a new stadium for the region.

The $18 million stadium - funded mainly by rates - is being built at Okara Park, replacing a decrepit building used by the Northland Rugby Union.

The trust deed says the new stadium must be run and promoted as a multi-events centre, by three to five trustees, selected by the council.

The council will own the stadium, but the trust will manage and operate it.

The council says people are now being approached to become trustees.
