The Auckland school where a boiler exploded in June, killing the caretaker, says it does not believe it breached any regulations, and will vigorously defend any charges laid over his death.
The Department of Labour has been investigating the death of Richard Louis Nel, who died in hospital after the explosion at Orewa College, but has yet to announce its findings.
The school board of trustees chairman, Phil Pickford, says however that the department has told the school that charges will be laid against it for an alleged breach of the Health and Safety in Employment Act.
Mr Pickford says he is still waiting to hear details but the school will fight any charges laid.
He says the school wants to know the official outcome of the investigation in order to end any uncertainty for the school and the people who were involved in the tragedy.
He says any charges should have been laid sooner.
