Music conservatorium opponents go to court

Opponents of a controversial proposal to build a music conservatorium in Christchurch took their case to the High Court on Monday.

Christchurch City Council wants build the facility at the Arts Centre and lease it back to Canterbury University.

But the opposition group, Save Our Arts Centre, says the facility would not maintain the centre's architectural integrity and should be abandoned.

A spokesperson, Dame Anne Hercus, says the group will raise substantive issues of law at a later court hearing.

She says Monday's fixture was aimed at getting the resource consent hearing put on hold until the other issues have been resolved.
