A man has been charged with murder after what appears to be a stabbing incident in the eastern Bay of Plenty.
The police are describing the incident as particularly unsavoury.
They say they were called to a home in Matahi Valley Road near Taneatua on Tuesday night where they found 45-year-old Pomare Mason dead following a family related incident.
It's believed a knife was involved.
The accused, 22, appeared in Whakatane District Court on Wednesday morning and was remanded in custody.
