The suspicious death of a middle-aged man in Tauranga is being treated as a homicide following the results of a post mortem on Wednesday.
The body of a man, 43, was discovered by a family member in a house on Watling Street in the suburb of Gate Pa on Tuesday morning. Neighbours reported hearing a fight at the house the night before.
The police are not releasing details of the post-mortem.
A man, 19, appeared in the Tauranga District Court on Wednesday on assault charges in relation to the death. He has been remanded in custody until Thursday.
The names of both the victim and the accused are suppressed.
The police are keen to talk to anyone who saw or heard anything on Watling Street on Monday night.
