Police have used a taser on an 18-year-old brandishing knives during a family fight at a West Auckland caravan park.

Police say they were called to the Swanson Caravan Park at 4pm on Wednesday following reports that someone had been stabbed and the person responsible still had a knife.

Detective Senior Sergeant Stan Brown says when police arrived the teenager refused to put down two large knives.

Mr Brown says due to fears for the safety of the other people at the campground, police tasered him.

He says no-one had been stabbed, as was initially reported to police.

The teenager appeared in court on Thursday charged with possession of an offensive weapon, assault, and damaging property.

He has been remanded on bail.
