Donut to be remade in concrete

7:49 pm on 4 January 2010

Canterbury police still want to find out who firebombed a Springfield landmark that is to be replaced in fire-resistant concrete.

Springfield's pink donut was burned beyond repair in September.

The fibreglass donut was erected as temporary publicity for the animated [Simpsons] movie, but gained international popularity as visitors made the trip to Springfield to photograph it.

Springfield town committee chairman Bill Woods says approval has been granted to rebuild the donut in concrete.

Mr Woods says a small pink replica donut, made from a tractor tyre, stands on the spot in the meantime.

Police say the file remains open and they want to hear from anyone who knows about the arson attack.
