A man has been arrested after a six-hour hunt for a stolen motor vehicle on the East Coast on Monday.
A stationwagon was pulled over about 10am at Pouawa, north of Gisborne, but then made off at high speed.
Police say they backed off the chase when the vehicle reached speeds 150 kilometres an hour.
There were two subsequent pursuits of the vehicle before police believed they had cornered it inland from Tokomaru Bay.
About 4pm they received reports of a second vehicle which, when stopped, made off at speed before being stopped by police road spikes.
A man was later found in the bush and arrested, and the stationwagon was later recovered.
