Fire Service warning over stolen LPG cylinders

4:33 pm on 6 January 2010

The Fire Service is warning people in Christchurch not to use six big LPG cylinders stolen from a city factory.

The cylinders are 1.27 metres high and weigh 85 kilograms. They have a distinctive blue top that makes them easy to identify as not for domestic use.

Fire Service assistant area manager for Christchurch Dave Burford says connecting the cylinders to a domestic supply or a barbecue could have dangerous consequences.

He says LPG can explode on ignition, but even a small leak would be hazardous.
