The police in Hamilton are looking for a woman who was involved in an attempted kidnapping at a Westfield mall.
Acting Senior Sergeant Neil Faulkner says the police went to the shopping centre in Chartwell on Wednesday afternoon after receiving reports that a man was assaulting a woman and trying to abduct her son.
He says that once officers arrived at the scene they realised that it was a domestic incident, and that it was the woman who had initiated the attack.
Mr Faulkner says the man then chased the woman, punching and kicking her.
The man has been arrested and charged with assault, but the police are still looking for the woman who left the scene before they arrived.
She is 23-year-old Terina Watene, and the police say she is wanted on existing warrants.
