An armed man who held up a taxi driver in Napier on Tuesday night, is still at large.
Police say the taxi driver drove the customer from the corner of Wycliffe Street and Oldham Avenue in the suburb of Onekawa, to Harold Holt Avenue, where he was threatened with a gun and told to hand over money.
After a struggle, Detective Constable Dave Crosby says the man fled down an alley towards Oldham Avenue.
The firearm was a heavy pistol or sawn-off shotgun about 30cm long.
The incident happened at about 9.45pm on Tuesday. The man is described as Maori, about 20 years of age.
