Police say arson is now suspected in a fire which damaged several sawmill buildings in Gisborne on Thursday.
Some timber was also lost in the blaze.
At one point, business premises close to the central city were threatened.
The Fire Service was still at the scene on Friday, trying to cool hot spots in a sawdust pit.
