The body of a hunter has been retrieved from the Taramakau River on the West Coast.
The Greymouth man, in his 70s, was reported overdue on Monday morning near Jackson's, between Arthurs Pass and Kumara.
A helicopter crew saw him in the river and directed ground teams to the scene.
Police say he may have drowned after getting into trouble crossing the river.
A report is being prepared for a Coroner's inquest.
