Train services resume

9:20 am on 19 January 2010

Normal train services resumed in Auckland on Tuesday morning after engineers worked through the night.

Full service was meant to resume on Monday following three weeks of work at Newmarket Junction, but there were problems with new signalling equipment.

Project director Murray Hood says thorough testing of every element was needed for such a complex new system.

The southern and eastern lines are now open again. Replacement bus services and additional trains on the western line have been discontinued.
