The Far North District Council says it's not to blame for an increase in bulk water prices in parts of Kerikeri.
Residents there who are not connected to the council supply were faced with almost double the cost of refilling their tanks recently.
Water tanker companies were refused access to council supplies, in order to conserve them.
The council says they had been taking too much water and were taking advantage of restrictions designed to conserve supplies.
KeriKeri Water Supplies says it was forced to seek water from remote sites at Kaikohe and Moerewa, and had to recover the additional cost of that.
However, local supplies are now available again and the company says the price of a tanker is back to normal.
