Flats for homeless in Auckland gets go-ahead

3:49 pm on 21 January 2010

Plans to build more than 100 flats for homeless people in Auckland look likely to be realised after the project gained resource consent.

The project will be near St Matthews Church in the city centre and will consist of 80 supported apartments, a drug and alcohol unit and 50 homes for single parents in full-time education.

Auckland City Mission spokesperson Denise Robertson says tenants will pay rent. She says the project has support from the city council and Housing New Zealand.
