A 24-year-old man faces a range of charges following a dramatic police pursuit in the Hutt Valley, during which the driver of the chased car threw beerbottles at his pursuers.
The 20-minute chase began just after 10am on Friday when police officers saw a man throwing bottles from his vehicle on High St, in Lower Hutt.
The police say they tried unsuccessfully to stop the vehicle with road spikes in Upper Hutt, after which the occupant threw a number of beer bottles at the chasing police car.
Sergeant Gordon Russell says that after clipping the pursuing police vehicle the man's car came to rest against a brick wall.
He says the driver fled but was located a short time later by a police dog unit.
A 24-year-old man, who has outstanding arrest warrants against his name, faces charges of driving while suspended, driving with excess breath alcohol and dangerous driving.
