State Highway 1 between Wellington - Otaki is expected to be congested on Monday afternoon, as the Wellington Anniversary weekend draws to a close.
Police say peak traffic flows heading south will be between 3pm and 6pm.
Southbound passing lanes on State Highway 1 north of Otaki will be closed for safety reasons and to improve traffic flow.
Inspector Peter Baird advises people to plan their journeys.
