Residents in Tauranga are being urged to conserve water after a major electrical fault at a water processing plant.
The Tauranga City Council says the supply should be back to normal on Tuesday morning but is asking residents to conserve water until then.
Only one plant is supplying the city's water needs after the fault occurred at a second plant about 5pm on Monday.
Marcel Currin from the council says residents in the suburbs of Mt Maunganui, Papamoa, Welcome Bay and Ohauiti may experience low water pressure on Monday night, while some may not get any water at all.
Mr Currin is asking Tauranga residents whose water supply remains normal to conserve water to lessen the impact on affected areas.
"Please be cautious and careful about what you're doing. Don't run the bath when you could be just having a quick wash under the tap."
