Bypass houses for sale

9:10 am on 26 January 2010

A cluster of 19th century buildings moved to make way for an inner city bypass in Wellington is finally up for sale.

The 17 properties, some of which are now believed to be worth $1 million, have been empty for up to four years.

Neighbours have complained that Tonks avenue, near Cuba street, has attracted drunks and prostitutes.

The houses were acquired by the Government for the project, so they had to be offered back to the original owners or their descendants before they were sold.

Tenders close on 24 February.
