Auckland District Maori Council chair Titewhai Harawira wants kaumatua to be present when a Maori flag is hoisted on the Auckland harbour bridge on Waitangi Day.
She says that after all the work that went into choosing the tino rangatiratanga flag as the official ensign, Maori Affairs Minister Pita Sharples has failed to properly organise the flag-raising ceremony.
Ms Harawira told Waatea News that if he does not get the ceremony right in Auckland, Dr Sharples could be in for a rude reception at Waitangi on Saturday.
