9:17 am on 7 February 2010

Ngati Awa is using social networking sites to get ideas from young members about where the Bay of Plenty iwi should be heading.

Spokesman William Stewart says sites such as Facebook and Bebo will be used as way of communicating with iwi members, 60% of whom are aged under 30 and a third under 16.

Mr Stewart told Waatea News the sites will also enable the iwi to communicate with members all over the world.
