Principal auctions curriculum in standards protest

An Invercargill school principal has put the national curriculum up for online auction in protest at the introduction of National Standards.

The Government introduced the standards to primary schools when the new school year began two weeks ago.

The principal of Waverley Park School, Kerry Hawkins, says he has placed the curriculum on the Trade Me website to try to get debate going between people other than teachers or politicians.

He says he is not opposed to the idea of national standards but wants them trialled first.

Not all of the comments posted on the auction site have been against the standards, he adds.
