Glass is good to go at wine festival

The Marlborough Wine Festival has won a police dispensation to use glass drinking containers for its 27th festival on Saturday.

Wine Marlborough spokesperson Marcus Pickens, says it's important to be able to provide glass rather than plastic containers. "We see that as really critical to the educational aspect of the festival," he says.

Eight thousand tickets were sold quickly for the annual event, with more than 5000 people coming from outside Marlborough.

Dozens of wine producers, several food stall operators and entertainers will be at the festival, which is being held at Montana's Brancott Estate near Blenheim.

Mr Pickens says Blenheim accommodation is close to full for the weekend
