Police say a man has died after being pulled unconscious from the Waikato River, near Taupo.
Police say the man drowned about 3.50pm on Sunday.
They say he and a friend were swimming about half a mile upstream from Huka Lodge, when he got into difficulty and was unable to get back to shore.
Police say he was eventually removed from the water but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
